The Moose Cabinet stands out for its unique properties. It is not just a piece of furniture but a fun and functional addition to any space. The cabinet's intriguing features include plug-and-play accessories such as antlers for keys, hats, or scarves, a bowl for accessories, open and closed shelves for display and storage, and mirrors. The Moose's eye acts as a knob for the shutter, revealing beautiful green stained internals, a surprise element that astonishes everyone.
The cabinet is a result of meticulous craftsmanship. Handmade by carpenters using Oak wood, the Moose Cabinet is finished with an Italian Water-Based Matte Finish. The accessories are made by joining wood parts to turned metal rods, adding to its unique appeal. The cabinet measures 161 x 400 x 1085, making it a perfect fit for modern living spaces.
Priyam Doshi's inspiration for the Moose Cabinet came from the desire to add fun to mundane lifestyles and objects. The cabinet is designed to be a FUNctional piece - fun yet highly functional. The need for multifunctionality in today's demanding lifestyles and efficient use of living spaces led to the addition of plug-and-play accessories for the users.
The design process involved extensive online and offline research on furniture marketplaces and physical stores. One of the insights was that the space above a cabinet usually isn’t utilized and a lot of daily knick-knacks, books, etc are just kept on the top surfaces of storage cabinets which eventually gets cluttered/messy. This insight led to the addition of plug-and-play accessories to the Moose Cabinet, enabling users to utilize the space as per their needs.
The Moose Cabinet faced creative and technical challenges. Breaking away from the stereotypical form/shape of boxy storage cabinets and making the cabinet highly functional was a creative challenge. The trial and error of steam bending the Oak wood was a technical challenge, which wasn’t very successful in the first piece, but Priyam Doshi is working on it to make it successful.
The Moose Cabinet is a testament to Priyam Doshi's innovative approach to design. It is not just a piece of furniture but a statement of style and functionality. The cabinet was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Design Award in 2023, a testament to its outstanding design and innovation.
